Overview
This policy establishes the guidelines and requirements for protecting the cyber media within our organization in accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-53 Rev. 5, Media Protection and Control (MP-1). It aims to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive information stored on various media devices. It ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information stored on electronic and physical media to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees, contractors, consultants, and any other individuals who have access to the organization's cyber media, including electronic and physical media. It encompasses all media formats, including but not limited to computer hard drives, removable storage devices, magnetic tapes, optical discs, and any other physical or virtual media.
Definitions
Authorized Personnel: Authorized personnel include individuals who have received explicit permission and are authorized by the organization to access, handle, store, or transport cyber media.
Cyber Media: Cyber media refers to any electronic or physical storage device, including but not limited to hard drives, solid-state drives, USB drives, CDs/DVDs, tapes, memory cards, and any other media capable of storing data or information.
