An excerpt from ISNetworld® RAVS®* Safety plan Fit for Duty Program

Each employee has an individual responsibility to prevent accidents. Replace with Company Name will ensure that its workers are educated on these Fit For Duty policies and procedures by the RSO, Replace with Safety Person’s Name, or supervisor. [1] Additionally, Replace with Company Name will ensure that workers have the necessary education, experience, and training to perform their job tasks. [2]

It is to the benefit of all employees and Replace with Company Name that you report any situation or condition you believe may present a safety hazard, including any known or concealed dangers in your work area. In addition, employees must also be responsible for ensuring they are physically and mentally fit to perform their job functions safely. Workers must be physically capable of performing their job tasks. A Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) should be prepared for each job duty to ensure workers are placed accordingly. [3] Employees are responsible for notifying their supervisor if they are fatigued to the point of not being able to perform their duties safely. Employees must take responsibility for their own safety as well as not reporting to work in a condition as to endanger the safety of their fellow workers.

Replace with Company Name encourages you to report your concern either to your immediate supervisor or to a member of the Safety Committee. The supervisor or Safety Committee will take immediate action to investigate the matter.

Pre-employment physicals should be included in the hiring process, and also when changing into certain job functions and different environments. These assessments may include functional capacity testing as follows: Strength and endurance of the individual in relation to work goals. Equipment and methods that quantify and measure strength and conditioning levels may be utilized; i.e., ergometers, dynamometers, treadmills, measured walking tolerances; commercial strength and exercise devices, free weights, circuit training. Goals for each worker are dependent on the demands of their respective jobs.
