Policy
It is the policy of Replace with Company Name that any employee participating in job tasks when environmental risk factors for cold illness are present will comply with the procedures in this program. Workers in the normal course of their duties may be required to perform work in adverse weather conditions. Precautions and continuing measure shall be taken by each worker to minimize health risks and discomfort from working in these conditions.
Purpose
To ensure that all employees of Replace with Company Name are protected from cold illness while working on job tasks where environmental risk factors for cold illness are present and to establish the minimum requirements for working in this environment.
Cold Weather
Employees who work in outdoor places of employment or on job tasks in unheated areas at those times when the environmental risk factors for cold illness are present, are at risk for developing cold illnesses if they do not protect themselves appropriately. The RSO, Replace with Safety Person’s Name, or supervisor will ensure an assessment is made to identify the types of jobs or employees who are at risk for cold exposure, such as unheated buildings, open structures, pit excavations, manholes/ underground vaults, etc. [1] <1> The objective of this program is employee awareness regarding cold illness symptoms, ways to prevent illness, and what to do if symptoms occur
