 Purpose

This Machine and Equipment Program is designed to protect Replace with Company Name employees from hazards of moving and stationary machinery. All hazardous areas of these machines shall be guarded to prevent accidental "caught in" situations, and maintained in safe operating condition when ready for use.   [1]  If a machine or equipment is in unsafe condition, it shall be removed from service immediately.  [2]  In addition, any equipment found to be defective shall be corrected before the equipment is used, or locked out/tagged out of service to prevent usage.  [4] 

 Scope

This program shall apply to all machines and pieces of equipment that due to their nature and design possess hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips, and sparks. 

 Responsibilities

Management

• Ensure all machinery is properly guarded
• Provide training to employees
• Ensure new purchased equipment meets any machine guard requirements prior to use

 Supervisors

• Train assigned employees on the specific machine operating rules in their areas
• Monitor and inspect to ensure machine guards remain in place and functional

•           Immediately correct or report any deficiencies and do not use the equipment until corrected
